Mr. Moffat, a candidate for the post of Chief Executive of IBM, Samuel Palmisano, will be sentenced on September 13 in federal court in Manhattan for his role in what prosecutors called the largest U.S. probe into insider trading at hedge funds in the United States, told Reuters.

In some purple prose, Fortune says Mr. Moffat, stumbled on the emotional, repentance, and punished "in an interview:

He wept, describing the embarrassment he brought on IBM, their colleagues and family. Although he showed a bit of self-pity, he rejected the notion that he has not paid the price for their crimes, noting that, leaving IBM, he gave up an estimated $ 65 million in lost stock options and pensions, which he collected when he went to retire at 60. "The biggest thing I lost," he said, "this is my reputation. Moffat was not allowed his attorney to discuss his case or his relationship with Chiesi, but when I learned that Fortune was going to write about this matter, "he said as follows:" Everyone wants to make it about sex. Daniel has an extensive network of business people. And it added clarity about what is happening in the business world ... I know in my heart that this ratio was: clarity in the business environment. "Perhaps he even believes in it.

Ms. Chiesi Galleon and hedge fund founder Raj Rajaratnam, 53, the main accused in the case, pleaded not guilty to fraud and conspiracy. They struggle to listen to suppress the data before their trial in October.

Mr. Moffat involved in the scandal shopping isnider shocked his colleagues and left a 31-year career at IBM in ruins, Fortune says:

... All the buttons down the leadership in Big Blue, Moffat was the last of that old friends could not imagine that he had caught in a scandal, not to mention the crime. A former Eagle Scout had a reputation for loyalty as hard as his 6-foot-2, 265-pound frame.

Kenneth Hammer, a former lawyer IBM, who worked with Moffat, recalled his reaction on hearing about the arrest: "There was not a planet on which I could understand what they say about Bob. I just shut down."
