Canadian comedy Leslie Nielsen Love And Death

Leslie Nielsen was a star. Riding the wave of popularity of Airplane and Naked Gun franchise, Nielsen was a massive success in the insular world of Canadian comedy when he appeared on the Genie Awards to meet the young writers of the series.
"I remember the first time I spoke with him, I said something like, 'Hi, how are you?" We shook hands, and made that fart sound incredible, "says Brian Nasimok, a comedian who wrote to Nielsen, the show host that year." He had this little device that made him fart sounds and had to interlayer Throughout the talks, but not break character. He has always played the straight joke, even if it was a fart machine. "
Nielsen died late Sunday at a hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a veteran of 84 years old, succumbed to pneumonia. Born in Regina, Nielsen began his career as a major player, and excelled at the Red Skelton Show, M * A * S * H and The Poseidon Adventure. However, it was his work as a comedian, especially in collaboration with the Zucker brothers in Police Squad! and Airplane where Nielsen connected with the fans.
"He played this kind of clumsy hero can not fail to love and was gifted in parody, burlesque slapstick and puns," says Lynne Perras, who teaches a course in Canadian humor at the University of Calgary. "His humor was definitely not malicious, it's very Canadian, and was also very good at laughing at himself -. Again, a very Canadian trait"
The son of a Mountie and the brother of a member of Parliament, Nielsen acted alongside stars such as Debbie Reynolds and Barbra Streisand star and received both the American and Canadian tours of fame. "He had an impassive billion," says Mark Breslin, founder of Yuk Yuk comedy clubs and author of Yuk Yuk's Guide to Canadian Stand-Up. "It's easy to be funny in an aggressive type of way, but for fun as a righteous man is difficult. You can draw a straight line from the work of Leslie Nielsen to the work of people like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert."
Since his death, the comments have been transmitted in the people who worked with Nielsen. "Great heart of Leslie and fierce intelligence set goof-ball comedy and was its undisputed master," said Paul Gross, who worked with Nielsen in the Southern cause, in a statement. "His loss will be felt by all. More personally, was a mentor and friend."
"When playing against the type of character, he found a thread hilarious comedy that became a Canadian icon ironic," writes Andrew Alexander, executive director of Second City, the famous comedy troupe based in Chicago that formed a legion of comedy stars, including Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner and Eugene Levy.
Of course, nobody can talk to the influence of a Canadian comedy icon as a comedian still working on the Canadian comedy world today. Brent Butt is creator of the corner gas is currently written and performed by the hippocampus show, and says Leslie Nielsen was one of a kind.
"I never saw the play like that before and since Saskatchewan was not exactly a comedy hotbed, finding that Canada was me thinking that maybe I could do it too," says Butt, who performed with Nielsen in 2005 in Saskatchewan Centennial Celebration in front of Queen Elizabeth and 13,000 fans. "He was a professional through and through and as fun as it was, so I think it really going to miss most about him was that he was a super nice guy."
