Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has asked drivers to slow holiday travel through Western Washington as a major winter storm makes its way through the area.
"If you can, delay your trip until Tuesday or Wednesday," said Chris Christopher WSDOT maintenance manager Bellevue Reporter. "The conditions today continue to deteriorate, especially in the Puget Sound area. If you have to be on the road, slow down, drive for conditions and let the trucks through WSDOT."
WSDOT has all its equipment, but which is encountering difficulties in cleaning high-traffic roads.
"If you must drive, slow down and increase the distance," said WSP Chief John R. Batiste. "Leave early so as not to be tempted to run and the risk of a collision."
Eastbound Interstate 90 at Snoqualmie Pass was closed on Monday after numerous accidents.
According to KOIN, WSDOT and ODOT reported a dozen accidents in the area due to icy conditions and said chains are required on all vehicles except those with all-wheel drive.
