The couple married 18 years ago and were together for 20. The former couple announced the decision on Thursday through a press release.
"John Mellencamp and Elaine are proud of their 20 years together and are very happy with their achievements as well as parents and family, " said the spokesman.
"They will continue to raise their two children in Indiana, but have decided to call it a day as a couple."
The couple have two children together.
John Mellencamp Elaine married on September 5, 1992. While modeling for the cover of 1991 album John, I always wanted, the couple fell in love.
