Green Bay Packers’ Studs and Duds in 38-35 Win Over New York Giants

The BCS bowl announcement show arrived, and just as expected, it is a rematch between the undefeated LSU Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide for the national championship. The Oklahoma State Cowboys beat up the Oklahoma Sooners in the final game of the regular season, and while they closed in on Alabama in the voting, it was not enough to sway the BCS to give the Cowboys a chance.

One has to wonder if this season might end up like the year that LSU beat Oklahoma and the AP awarded their national title to USC, giving the two schools a split-championship. I don't think Oklahoma State has a chance, but if Alabama barely beats LSU and wins the BCS national championship, is there a chance the AP keeps LSU in first place?

Here is where the argument lies.

In the 2011 season, LSU beat Oregon (#5) by 27, West Virginia (#23) by 26, Alabama (#2) by three, Arkansas (#6) by 24 and Georgia (#14) by 32. Alabama beat Penn State (#21) by 16 and Arkansas (#6) by 24. They also lost to LSU by three. Even if Alabama beats LSU, that means they split the season against each other. LSU, by a large margin, had a much better season, beating three Top 10 teams and two others in the Top 25. If they go 1-1 against Alabama, I still consider them the better team.

To complicate matters even more, Oklahoma State beat Oklahoma (#16) by 34, Kansas State (#8) by seven, Baylor (#13) by 35, Texas (#24) by 12 and Missouri (#25) by 21. Basically, a team that beat five BCS Top 25 teams fell behind a team that only beat two and wasn't even good enough to win their own conference.

To be really facetious, Oklahoma State beat two SEC teams this year as well in Texas A&M and Missouri. They should be a nice fit in the SEC next season.

With that said, LSU and Alabama should be another low scoring, defensive battle. However, LSU is so dominant that it doesn't matter who they play this year. They should beat Alabama and exit the season known as one of the greatest college football teams of all time. On the other hand, Oklahoma State and Stanford play in the Fiesta Bowl, which will be an amazing game and probably the best in the BCS series.

As for the Oklahoma Sooners, whose sacrifice to the Cowboys was for naught? They get a throw away bowl against Iowa in Arizona on Dec. 30.
