Two Canadian fighter jets intercepted an Air Emirates flight as part of an international response to a terrorist threat against the United States cargo aircraft.
NORAD officials QMI Agency confirmed that a pair of fighter jets escorted a CF-18 Emirates flight by Canadian airspace.
Officials from Canada and the United States became concerned about the flight of Emirates after learning that could be carrying the burden of Yemen.
"Two CF 18 were in the air and that was diverted and escorted a civilian jetliner Canadian airspace," said NORAD spokesman John Cornelius.
"Once they reached U.S. airspace, the Canadians gave the U.S. two F-15 and escorted the plane to JFK (airport in New York)."
Canadian government officials said they were monitoring the situation.
"Our government is aware of recent incidents of air cargo was in the United States and the United Kingdom," said John Babcock, press secretary to Transport Minister Chuck Strahl.
"Currently we have no information that these incidents were directed to Canada. However, we are monitoring the situation closely. We are working with our security partners, both in Canada and internationally, to ensure the safety and security travelers. "
Security officials became concerned about the flight and its cargo Emirates Yemen after the discovery of suspicious devices on cargo flights.
The Prime Minister's Office said the incident to support their decision to buy 65 planes F-35 fighter.
"If the CF-18 or F-35s, Canada's air force needs the proper equipment to protect Canadian airspace," said Harper spokesman Dimitri Soudas. "Liberals Michael Ignatieff and its coalition partners would be to cancel the purchase agreement of the F-35s. They prefer to use kites to defend Canadian fighter jets."
