California remains one of the most liberal states in the nation, but that does not mean that laws change overnight. That is the message that Proposition 19 supporters are extended after the results show a loss for the legalization of marijuana.
Proposition 19 was defeated by a large turnout among older voters. Supporters of Proposition 19 believe that this was the first step in legalizing marijuana, and have said that not only will California votes on the issue in 2012.
"We may have lost the battle today, but we are still very much alive in the war," said Bryan Bellstar. "We (the supporters of support 19) have brought the issue of legalization of marijuana to its highest level, and there are groups in other states to follow our example. I think we will see these questions on the ballot in several states in the next election. "
Yesterday, CGW described how the marijuana issue is parallel to the issue of game. At first, many states were opposed to gambling expansion, but with persistence, legislators and groups in favor of gambling expansion have created dozens of U.S. states in the last couple of years. Bellstar also believes persistence will pay off for supporters of marijuana.
There was some good news for liberals in California. Nancy Pelosi, retained his seat in the House despite losing the status of majority leader when Republicans gained control of the camera. Pelosi has been evasive on the issue of online gambling in the U.S., and it is likely that a new minority leader will be elected when the track changes early next year.
Pelosi's approval ratings were low, but the district in which it represents is one of the most liberal in the country. The soon to be former Speaker of the House won in a landslide in the race for his seat in the House. Republicans have been unhappy with Pelosi and her agenda in the House and the Obama Administration has taken over the past year.
