Garrett Wittels, the star of Florida International University, whose 56 hits in the game hitting streak is below the NCAA record two and a group of friends were arrested in the Bahamas last week and charged with the rape of two girls 17 years of age.
The incident, reported Monday by The Miami Herald, which happened at the Atlantis Resort and Casino on Paradise Island on 20 December. Wittels and two friends were released each $ 10,000 bond after a court hearing Thursday.
Wittels father, Michael Wittels orthopedist, told reporters that his son had been arrested in the Bahamas, but said that when all facts are released, her son would be vindicated.

It is not known what effect the arrest might have on eligibility Wittels' baseball season for the FIU 2011.
Wittels is set to resume his pursuit of the NCAA record streak of 58 Robin Ventura hit games on the weekend of February 18 to 20 against Southeastern Louisiana.
