Chuck Berry had to be helped off the stage last night (January 1) at a concert in Chicago after collapsing as a whole.
The 84-year-old, he was performing at Congress Theatre Chicago, is said to have sunk more than a keyboard accompanist of an hour into the show. He was helped then off stage during a medical examination and returned 15 minutes later only to be expelled again almost immediately. Berry was later revised by paramedics, who had been called to the scene. He returned to the stage one last time to thank the crowd, but then left the stage and left the place.
Speaking to the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Joe Roccasalva said Berry has refused to be taken to hospital but was too weak to continue the show.
Despite his age, Berry continues to perform live regularly and has just completed a full U.S. tour. Its management have not commented on the incident.
