The second episode of the much-discussed MTV teen drama Skins is focused on lesbian tea (Black Sophie D'Elia) and his own struggle with the revelation of his sexuality with his family very close. D'Elia, a 19-year-old native of New Jersey, who had previously only acted professionally in a short time in the series All My Children, said that a basis of tea in one of her fellow high school. "Tea for me was actually very similar to one of my friends growing up in high school," says D'Elia. "I like to use as my sounding board." EW talked to the actress more about exciting chapter of the previous night, and the controversy surrounding the series rookie.
Entertainment Weekly: Were you familiar with the British version of the show? D'ELIA SOFIA BLACK: Yes, I was a big fan of the original. While auditioning just finished season 3. Grande "two generations" fan.
What was the audition process for Skins? I was part of the first batch of bodies set up auditions. It was through the open call. But it was still the same kind of feeling: a large group of neurotic teenagers trying to impress a casting agency and highlights. I auditioned for [the character] Michelle because I had not been written yet. Towards the end of the audition process, I received a call saying: "You got Michelle" and was devastated by ten seconds, but said: "They want to audition for tea." The audition process was undoubtedly long and exhausting.
Describe tea in their own words. I would say the surface area is [a] very safe, strong, wing-type guys with chicken. At first glance, a kind of unrelated because I do not know many teenagers who have that air of confidence and courage. But underneath it all that is as safe as the rest of us. You go home with her and see that your family really cares about her and that is a rarity in furs. At the same time, because of his background and beliefs, and what not, it is undeniable that fear of showing their true colors. She can be as free as you want with your friends, but as soon as your home will have to close. I think his greatest fear is that she is going to disappoint the people who care about most is his dad.
Last night, we connect you with both Betty and Tony. Why do you think is drawn to Tony? Tony is one of the few people who can keep you on your toes. Betty is this character who apparently is very good for tea, because she is a girl and a little concerned, but then the tea is still boring. I think the Tony area relationship works both ways, because I think Tony feels somewhat the same about Michelle. For all purposes, which is perfect for him: she is beautiful, she's the hottest girl in school and makes Tony feel fresh. But after all, is still boring. That's kind of why I think they [tea and Tony are] attracted to each other because the relationship of one, as impossible as it is for many reasons, is the only relationship in the life of both something new and exciting and interesting.
Have you had some very hot scenes in the episode last night. Were awkward to film? Yes, absolutely. What is interesting is that following the filming of the series, so people stick to the hot scenes. But for us during the shoot, we do not cling to them because they were just another day. The crew did not feel like you have something to worry about. We walked on set and no matter what we were doing, whether it is an emotional scene with my grandmother or a sex scene with a girl, I felt the same way: how can I get my excitement in this scenario . I'm more worried about my ability to act in the nerves of being naked in front of a computer. We have really good luck with the people around us in this program. They gave their support and confidence and a great family to the cast. So those scenes were for us another day. I know that now seems so much more than that, it's kind of unfortunate for us because it is not what we're most proud of and what we feel the heart of the show is. Hopefully, over time, people will let go of the concern of the raciness of the spectacle and scandal, it is much deeper.
