No one killed Jessica is a dramatization of the murder of Jessica Lall in 1999 and the tumultuous events that followed including the trial failed at the verdict, allowing main accused Manu Sharma to walk free and the public outcry carried out, which finally forced to a new trial and a sentence of life imprisonment.
The murder of Jessica Lall was a decisive event Gupta uses this rich material to create a film that is in some places, powerful and moving. But it is safe, simple and somewhat schizophrenic in tone. It's almost as if the director could not decide on the correct pitch and decided to marry a sober realism with the grand drama.
The first is epitomized by Vidya Balan, who plays Sara, the sister of Jessica besieged struggling in vain against the force of Manu Sharma, son of a powerful politician. Unlike his glamorous sister, at a party of girls, Sabrina is painfully simple and sober. Wearing gray and glasses, Vidya is a portrait of the anguish and strength.
The other stand-out actor is Rajesh Sharma, who plays the police on the case of Jessica. In a brutal scene, he tells Sabrina on bribery has taken. When she looks surprised, he simply says: Sab koi khata hai, Duniya mein hain Kaun if reheti AAP?
With a relentlessly moving camera, Gupta deftly captures the layers of power and relentlessly and the weak are quickly silenced. Unfortunately, however, is unable to carry the same nuanced approach to the media, which played a key role in reviving the case of Jessica Lall.
For me, the bass note, false at No. Meera Jessica A dead man is, the hard fiction journalist played by Rani Mukherjee talks. Meera is a strong independent woman, at least in this version, without assistance prods the establishment in the case review. So smoke, swear and have sex.
The character is written and the superficial image of the Rani is equally banal. These are external factors. She argued a lot and proudly labels herself a bitch, but the hair is perfectly in place and in the end, they even get to do a slow super-hero-like walking.
Gupta No one killed Jessica begins with the caveat that it is a hybrid of reality and fiction, but fiction more painful.
The film shows that NDTV out critical operations of the bite, including one about an actor who became a hostile witness in court. This was realized by the Tehelka magazine. This uneasy mix of truth and creative freedom; notes subtle and strong, they use their hands for a film seems uneven in places stretched unnecessarily.
That said, no one killed Jessica several notches ahead of the tripe we've been subjected to the movies lately.
