India's Sania Mirza took a group of former world No. 1 and winner of seven Grand Slam titles Justine Henin of Belgium before losing 7-5, 3-6, 1-6 in Open women's singles in Australia first round on Monday.
Henin, who won the tournament in 2004 and was a finalist in 2006 and 2010, needed all his legendary fighting qualities for submitting an inspired Sania in 2h 12mins.
The Belgian, 28 years old, seemed on its way to an easy victory when he worked in the first set at 5-4, only to stumble and allow Sania back and win the next three games to capture keystrokes opener in 60 minutes .
The seven-time major winner Henin came out firing early in the second, breaking Sania immediately and open a 2-0 lead.
Sania broke back to level the set, but Henin came back, breaking in India to serve two more times to finish the second set and get the party back in condition.
Again insurance Henin walked away with the third set to take the match and move to a second round clash against Britain's Elena Baltacha hope.
Sania will be pleased with their efforts against Henin after a career marked by a right wrist injury persistent.
The 24-year-old from Hyderabad, making his seventh consecutive appearance in the Open main draw Australia fell in qualifying in Auckland in their first tournament of the year before successfully achieve the main draw of the Australia Open.
