Showgirls Club Raises


Owner Gerilyn Deboer cousin Jenny says: "If you are having pornographic chorus and things like that, that's not really the image of the city."
Travel business center in the city are suspicious of what is going on behind the closed doors of Tabu Lounge, a new club single-member chorus that just opened along the alley behind the bar of Union Street in downtown Traverse City.
Pavlova Salon Manager Lisa Baker, "A chorus room attracts a different audience so if that is going to be an area where such people are meeting that could raise some red flags in the level of comfort to people who travel from center. "
Gerilyn owner cousin Jenny Deboer says four bars already in the area and after hours club is the last thing downtown needs.
"As owners of shops in this area we deal with a lot of other bars, people get sick, there are bottles of beer, glass, people standing around, cigarette butts everywhere."
These allegations were brought to the attention of the Traverse City Zoning Department is now investigating the activities taking place within Tabu Lounge.
Planning Director Russ Soyring said to have spoken to the owner of the taboo is who said it was strictly a leisure club with girls dancing in their underwear.
Soyring says they will continue to monitor to ensure they are following the regulations of the zone C-4 zoning.
This is an area that does not allow companies to sell porn or strippers.
Soyring said that adult businesses are permitted only in the C-3 commercial zoning districts are highly regulated.
Soyring says, "find those along our main streets, major intersections and then there are space requirements that must be at least 300 feet of a residence or church, 200 feet of a park established, and can not be have more than one such establishment for every 1,000 feet. "
Tabu Hall sent a press release about the opening chorus is said to have underwear that comply with applicable local, state and federal ordinances.
