Ouattara urges peace, vows justice, security

The President acknowledged by the United Nations Operation in Cote d'Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara called for restraint after the dramatic capture of his rival, Laurent Gbagbo.

He promised Mr. Gbagbo a fair trial and told the Truth and Reconciliation Commission should be created.

Gbagbo, who surrendered after the attack on his residence in Abidjan, expressed hope for a normal life can resume as soon as possible.

He created a crisis by refusing to cede power, insisting that he won the presidential election in November.

But forces loyal to Mr. Ouattara leading to his residence on Monday, while the French tanks to support the mission of the United Nations peacekeeping operations in the country was not.
