Simpson, 30, and Johnson, 31 have been dating since May.
Simpson was spotted with an engagement ring by Neil Lane Johnson at the Dillard's department store in Kansas City on Saturday when he was promoting his clothing line. The three-stone ring featuring a central ruby flanked by two diamonds.
"She was in a very good mood," said a witness at the store of People magazine. "She was very kind and sweet. He signed autographs and seemed to have a great time."
Interestingly, Simpson's ex-husband, Nick Lachey, announced his engagement to Vanessa Minnillo on 4 November. The couple began dating in 2006.
Simpson Lachey married in October 2002. The marriage lasted just over three years.
