Memphis Grizzlies Mayo Suspended For 10 Games:Using Drug Dehydroepiandrosterone

Memphis Grizzlies guard O.J. May was suspended for 10 games after testing positive for a banned steroid, the NBA said on Thursday.

May, taken with the third overall pick in 2008 by the Minnesota Timberwolves, said in a statement that the positive outcome was the result of taking an OTC supplement, which contained the banned steroid DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone).

"I am very disappointed that I will spend the next 10 games, especially as our club is making a push for the playoffs, " Mayo said in a statement.

"I had no idea that the-counter supplement I took was a substance banned by the NBA.

"It was an honest mistake, but I am responsible for my actions.

"I apologize to my fans, teammates and the organization of the Grizzlies to unfortunately do the necessary research on the supplements that I can put in my body."

Mayo, the second behind the Chicago Bulls Derrick Rose for Rookie of the Year in 2009, has appeared in 45 games this season averaging 12.2 points.
